Read Across America

February 21, 2018 - March 2, 2018

NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.  Motivating children to read is an importnt factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers.  Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.

Ponce de Leon Elementary School will be celebrating Read Acrosws America February 26-Marach 2. Students will be encouraged to dress up on those days based on selected Dr. Seuss books and themes.  Teachers will also be incorporating some additional activities in their classrooms throughout the week to celebrae and promote reading. The dress-up schedule for each day is listed below.

February 26th is "Fox in Socks" Monday - wear crazy socks

February 27th is "Daisy-Head Mayzie" Tuesday - Girls wear flowers in hair, Boys wear crazy hair.

February 28th is "Wacky Wednesday" -wear something wacky

March 1st is "Horray for Diffendoofer Day!" Thursday - wear school colors (red & white)

March 2nd is "The Cat in the Hat" Friday - wear coolest, craziest or favorite hat.

BE A SUCKER FOR READING
Every student that takes an AR test on Friday, March 2nd will get a sucker from Mrs. Zorn, our school librarian!

We encourage you to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday on Friday, March 2nd by reading a book with your child
